Featuring aperitivo snacks, grilled mortadella with pesto, a fresh fennel citrus salad, homemade pizzas, limoncello spritzes, limoncello Jello shots, and an easy limoncello tiramisu trifle cake, this summer dinner party menu is perfect for entertaining. Inspired by the colorful charm of the Amalfi Coast, this Italian themed gathering combines simple recipes, bright citrus flavors, and effortless hosting ideas for a memorable evening with friends and family. Whether you're planning a backyard dinner party, pizza night, or lemon themed celebration, this menu is packed with easy Italian recipes and hosting inspiration.

For this dinner party, I wanted everything to feel bright, relaxed, and a little playful. Instead of planning an elaborate multi course meal, we built the evening around one of our favorite things: pizza night.

The result was a lemon themed Italian dinner party filled with spritzes, pizza, and limoncello desserts that transported us straight to the Amalfi Coast.

The Inspiration

When I think of the Amalfi Coast, I picture overflowing lemon trees, colorful ceramics, ocean views, and long dinners that stretch into the evening.

I leaned heavily into the lemon theme with citrus accents throughout the table, fresh lemons scattered between serving dishes, and plenty of limoncello infused treats from cocktails to dessert.

The goal was simple: create a menu that felt elevated enough for guests but easy enough to actually enjoy hosting.

To take some the stress out of hosting this crafty night I want to share with you all inspiration in this blog post to recreate this into your own! You will find an editable invitation below as well as a links to everything I used! You can also find all amazon links for the table decor that I used here.

✨ Limoncello Jello Shots

🍰 Limoncello Tiramisu Trifle Cake

Aperitivo Snacks

Every Italian inspired gathering starts with a few small bites and a drink in hand.

I put together a simple spread of aperitivo snacks for guests to enjoy while everyone arrived. Think olives, marinated vegetables, cheeses, crackers, and salty little bites that pair perfectly with a spritz.

Ingredients

2 cups mixed olives

2 cups kettle cooked chips

1 cup roasted salted peanuts

Instructions

Arrange everything in small bowls on a serving board. Serve alongside chilled limoncello spritzes while guests mingle.

Grilled Mortadella with Pesto

One of the unexpected stars of the evening was grilled mortadella topped with pesto.

The grill gives the mortadella crispy edges while keeping the center soft and savory. Finished with fresh pesto, it felt simple yet incredibly flavorful and paired beautifully with the citrus notes throughout the menu.

This simple appetizer delivers big Italian flavor with almost no effort.

Ingredients

8 ounces thick cut mortadella, sliced into large pieces

1/4 cup prepared basil pesto

¼ cup pistachios

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Heat a grill or grill pan to medium high heat.

Grill the mortadella for 1 to 2 minutes per side until lightly charred around the edges.

Transfer to a serving platter and spoon pesto over top or under the mortadella. Garnish with pistachios and serve warm.

Assorted Pizzas

The main event was a lineup of assorted pizzas.

And yes, my husband deserves all the credit here.

While I focused on the hosting details, cocktails, and tablescape, he took over pizza duty and kept fresh pies coming throughout the evening. There’s something so fun about serving pizzas family style because guests can sample different varieties while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and interactive.

This is the pizza oven I have and WE LOVE IT!!

Fennel Citrus Salad

To balance the richer dishes, I served a fresh fennel citrus salad.

Thinly shaved fennel, juicy citrus segments, peppery arugula, extra virgin olive oil, and a squeeze of fresh lemon created a bright, refreshing dish that felt straight out of a seaside Italian restaurant. It added freshness to the table and paired perfectly with both the appetizers and pizzas.

This refreshing salad balances all the rich flavors on the table and feels straight out of a seaside restaurant on the Amalfi Coast.

Ingredients

2 large fennel bulbs, thinly shaved

1/4 red onion, very thinly sliced

2 oranges, peeled and segmented

1/2 cup black olives

2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint

For the Citrus Dressing

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon honey

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Fresh cracked black pepper

Instructions

Arrange the fennel, red onion, oranges, olives, and mint on a serving platter.

Whisk together the olive oil, orange juice, lemon juice, honey, salt, and pepper.

Drizzle over the salad just before serving.

Limoncello Spritzes

No Amalfi Coast themed dinner party would be complete without a limoncello spritz.

Light, bubbly, and refreshing, these cocktails became the signature drink of the night. Served over ice with prosecco and sparkling water, they perfectly complemented the rich pizzas and savory appetizers.

The signature cocktail of the evening.

Ingredients

3 ounces prosecco

2 ounces limoncello

1 ounce sparkling water

Ice

Lemon slices for garnish

Fresh mint, optional

Instructions

Fill a wine glass with ice.

Add the limoncello, prosecco, and sparkling water.

Stir gently and garnish with a lemon slice and fresh mint.

Limoncello Jello Shots

For a playful surprise, I served homemade limoncello Jello shots in lemon cups.

They’re one of my favorite entertaining tricks because guests are always impressed by how beautiful they look, and they double as both a cocktail and a conversation piece.

You can find the recipe to make these on my next post!

Limoncello Tiramisu Trifle Cake

To finish the evening, I put a citrus twist on a classic Italian dessert.

Layers of limoncello soaked cake, creamy mascarpone filling, and fresh lemon flavor came together in a beautiful trifle that felt light enough for summer while still delivering all the indulgence of traditional tiramisu.

This easy no fuss dessert has all the flavors of a classic limoncello tiramisu but layered into a beautiful trifle bowl for effortless entertaining.

Ingredients

1 store bought pound cake, cubed

1 cup limoncello

8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened

1 cup heavy cream

1/3 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Zest of 2 lemons

Lemon slices and fresh mint for garnish

Instructions

In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.

In a separate bowl, stir together the mascarpone and lemon zest until smooth.

Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.

Arrange half of the pound cake cubes in the bottom of a trifle dish.

Brush or drizzle half of the limoncello over the cake.

Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the cake layer.

Repeat with the remaining cake, limoncello, and mascarpone mixture.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Garnish with lemon slices, fresh mint, and extra lemon zest before serving.

Hosting Tip: Make this dessert the day before your party. The limoncello soaks into the cake overnight, creating an incredibly light, creamy, lemony dessert that tastes like summer in Italy.

The Hosting Takeaway

One of my favorite things about this dinner party was that it followed a simple formula:

Aperitivo

A signature drink

A crowd pleasing main course

A playful surprise

A memorable dessert

That’s really all you need to create an experience guests will remember.

Themed dinner parties don’t have to be complicated. Sometimes choosing one clear inspiration and carrying it through the menu, cocktails, and atmosphere creates the most cohesive and memorable evenings.

This Amalfi Coast lemon themed pizza party felt like a little escape to Italy, and honestly, that’s exactly what summer entertaining should be.
