Blind Wine Tasting Dinner Party

If you are looking to host a fun dinner party, birthday party or event here is all the inspiration you need to host a blind wine tasting yourself! An unbiased way to try new wines and sips with friends. Host this wine tasting with ease using my free dinner party guide below.

Gather all your friends and try some new wines during this blind wine tasting! People often get hung up on wine brand names, if it is cork or screw top or if they like it based on the label. This wine tasting takes looks out of the picture and you simply try the wines and judge them based on what they taste like. It takes the biases and assumptions out of the tasting so people can appreciate the wines for what they are at face value 🍷

Hosting can be complicated and overwhelming. From thinking about decor to how to keep all the food warm and made in advance, to what wines to serve and how to make it a memorable evening. I am here to take the guess work out of planning your next dinner party! You’ll find an editable invitation below as well as wine tasting cards & amazon links so you can easily recreate everything that I did.

step one: choose 4-6 wines that you want to taste (these can vary in variety, price and where it is from)

step two: cover the bottles with napkins and number them so everyone knows which one they are tasting

step three: start from lightest wine to heaviest and have everyone taste one wine at a time and writing down the notes on the tasting cards

step four: have everyone say their favorite wine and guess which is the least/most expensive

step five: reveal the wine bottles and see how shocked everyone is by their reveal!

I sent each friend home with the wine they liked best, that way no wine goes to waste 🍷

To kick off this wine tasting, we decorated wine glasses. This was such a FUN way to start the evening by getting creative. The colored pens I used stick to glass and don’t come off when washed, so they are perfect for this little art project with friends. The girls pulled up some inspo on Pinterest and then got to decorating their wine glasses with hearts, cherries and colorful flowers. It was great to be able to tell whose glass was whose and everyone got to go home with a little keepsake.

To cover the wine bottles I used Vanity Fair Everyday Napkins. I always have these on hand for day to day meals & use. They worked perfectly to cover the wine labels, since this was a blind tasing, I did not want anyone knowing which wine they were drinking until the end. The absorbent napkins also caught any wine drizzle while pouring. You can find these napkins at your local store here.

Food and wines:

I wanted to make sure there were bites and nibbles for the girls to snack on while we did the wine tasting. I started by putting down butcher paper (this is food safe paper for all the cheese and charcuterie to go on AND makes clean up really easy). I spent under $50 on this charcuterie board for 6 girls.

The wines we tasted:

Avaline Riesling- $26

Bread and Butter Chardonnay- $11.99

Trader Joes Pinot Noir Russian River Valley- $12.99

Kathryn Hall Wines Cabernet Sauvignon- $225.00

You can use any wines you’d like! I tried to use a variety of light and full bodied wines (the Kathyrn Hall wine is a special one to me and has been sitting in my wine cellar for a few years. I thought this would be a fun one to taste with the girls!)

After the wine tasting, I made my classic pasta bolognese for the girls to eat. This is one of the easiest dishes to prepare for a dinner party or weeknight meal! It goes great with the wines served up too.

Below you will find an editable invitation to make hosting this blind wine tasting party that much easier! Simply add in your party details and send out the invitations to friends🍷

Here you will find printable wine tasting cards and a sign that you can add to a picture frame that explains to everyone how to sip & taste the wine.
