Caramel Apple Brie Cheese Bites

Think caramel apple but elevated into a creamy, sweet & salty bite sized appetizer perfect for any fall get together. The brie cheese adds the perfect creamy bite in here, making it perfect to pair with a glass of bubbly!

If you love caramel then listen up because a pairing you might not know of is how well brie cheese and caramel pair together this time of year! You can find me eating brie and a caramel square everyday leading up to Halloween! So I thought why not make this delicious cheese and candy pairing into a bite sized appetizer perfect for fall get togethers, Halloween parties or Thanksgiving. Serve as an appetizer or for dessert- but one thing I will tell you is that people will be SHOCKED by the flavor bomb that goes off in their mouth when they eat this. It is sweet, creamy, salty and crisp with that bite of juicy green apple 🍏

Ingredients for brie caramel apple bites

This appetizer requires minimal ingredients and you can make them in less than 10 minutes!

Here’s a list of ingredients that I used to make mine:

  • Pretzel

  • Caramel square

  • Brie cheese

  • Green apple

That is it! that’s all you need for these, they are really THAT easy to make.

I suggest using a Granny Smith green apple for this recipe because it adds a nice crisp and juicy bite that balances out the sweetness of the caramel square, whereas if you were to use a red apple it will add more sweetness to the bite. Nothing wrong with that, just depends on if you want it sweeter or not. Pick your poison 🍏🍎

I used skewers for this appetizer that elevate them a bit, but you can use any skewers you’d like! Even toothpicks would work.

Quality of brie cheese matters! I always recommend using a brie cheese that is French- brie cheese originated in France so if it is French you know it’s creamy, has notes of mushroom and will melt really well! When melted, the cheaper brie cheeses can often pool with oil which means they aren’t the best quality and stuffed with fillers & additives. When making baked brie, spend a little bit more on the cheese to make sure it’s a quality one.

Some of my personal favorite brie cheese brands are: Ile De France, President Cheese and Alouette Cheese

You only need to put the pretzel & caramel square in the oven for a few minutes until it warms up slightly. You don’t want the caramel square to fully melt, you just want it to get warm enough to stick to the brie and apple skewer.

These are the fancy skewers I used for these charcuterie hors d'oeuvres

Ingredients

  • Pretzel snaps
  • Caramel squares (unwrapped)
  • Brie cheese
  • Granny Smith green apple

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 275 or 300 F and line a baking sheet parchment paper
  2. Cut your brie cheese and Granny Smith apple into chucks (small bite sized squares about the size of your caramel square, use as reference if this helps)
  3. Lay pretzel by pretzel out on the baking sheet and put a caramel square on top of each pretzel
  4. Bake the pretzel caramels in the oven for 7 minutes just to warm up but NOT melt
  5. As they bake, add an apple and brie cheese slice onto each skewer
  6. Out of the oven, stick your apple and brie skewer into each caramel pretzel (push the brie apple skewer into the slightly melted caramel so that it sticks in)
  7. Enjoy these right away or make ahead a few hours for a halloween, fall or Thanksgiving get together! The perfect bite sized snack!

Notes

  • if you want a sweeter bite then use a red apple instead of green!
