This bruschetta recipe is a simple and classic Italian appetizer staple! I often make this when i am just looking for a refreshing snack mid day or when a friend tells me they will be by in half hour. It is quick and easy to make and more often than not, you will have the ingredients already in your fridge ready to go. It is topped a touch of balsamic glaze, olive oil and flaky sea salt- it’s a delicious reminder that the best way to enjoy tomatoes is peak-summer season. It’s one of my favorite appetizers to make when I’m entertaining in the summer. It’s SO easy, flavorful, and fresh🍅

Ingredients for Italian Bruschetta recipe

This appetizer requires only a few ingredients. I like to use roma tomatoes as they are firmer and you want a tomato that won’t wilt or get too soft in the bruschetta mixture. My Italian side of my family taught me young that they KEY to fresh bruschetta is removing the insides and seed from the tomatoes and only using the skins. That way the bruschetta stays firm and fresh even if you do make it a bit ahead of time. No one wants soggy bruschetta.

Here’s a list of ingredients that I used to make mine:

  • Roma tomatoes

  • Red onion

  • Fresh basil

  • Garlic

  • Balsamic glaze

  • Olive oil

  • Flaky sea salt

Ingredients Notes:

Roma tomatoes- you’ll want to use a firm tomato as it helps to keep the bruschetta fresh especially if you are making this ahead of time. If you can’t find Roma tomatoes, feel free to substitute for any of the following: grape tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, or plum tomatoes. You can also feel them at the grocery store to make sure you pick the firmer ones.

Fresh garlic- some recipes just taste WAY better with fresh garlic, and this is one of them. I would recommend using one clove of garlic if you like your bruschetta mild in garlic flavor and add more ad you’d like. Grating your fresh garlic is key for this as it mellows out the garlic flavor in the mix and gives it a hint of garlic without it being too overwhelming.

What to serve it with?

Good bread – I like to use a crusty baguette, but good-quality French bread or an Italian loaf like ciabatta would work too.

Crackers- I like to use a long plain or lightly salted cracker for this one like Firehook crackers

Fresh pita- fresh pita bread cut up into triangles works well to scoop up the bruschetta mix
