Ingredients for Layered Chip Dip
Everyone’s mom has a chip dip recipe that they swear by but I can promise you that my mom has the best one! & it’s all because of her secret ingredient that she adds to the sour cream that gives it so much flavor. You can serve this dip up at a BBQ, backyard pool party, day on the boat, with friends or on any ordinary Sunday. I even whip this up if I am just craving it, that is how addicting it is. I literally dream about this dip! My mom is the real MVP here creating a dip that has been passed down through generations and now we want to share it with all of you to enjoy too!
The secret ingredient is chive and onion cream cheese- this adds to much flavor to the dip and adds some thickness to the sour cream. In my opinion without the cream cheese mixed into the sour cream the dip isn’t thick enough and lacks flavor. The cream cheese really takes this dip up a notch!
Ingredients you need to make this layered dip are below so you can easily shop at the grocery store:
Sour cream
Chive & onion cream cheese
Salsa
Marble or cheddar cheese
Ingredients:
Sour Cream- I like to use a full fat sour cream for this dip. If I am hosting a party, it is all about flavor and the full fat sour cream really adds a nice thickness to the dip. You could substitute for a lower fat sour cream or even cottage cheese if you are trying to make this dip healthier.
Chive & onion cream cheese- This is the secret ingredient that MAKES this dip my mom’s layered chip dip. It adds a ton of flavor to the dip and thickness to the sour cream. Do not skip out on this- trust me try it with the cream cheese and it will be the best chip dip you’ve ever had.
Salsa- I usually use a mild salsa, but feel free to use any level of spice that you would like. You can even add some chopped up jalapeños into your salsa if you really want to kick it up on the spice scale.
Marble or cheddar cheese- You can use either but make sure you grab a fresh brick of cheese and freshly grate it to make this dip. I know the preslhedded stuff is easy to grab and go but TRUST ME. Freshly shredded cheese makes a big difference. It has so much more flavor in it too.
What to serve this dip with:
Tortilla chips- personally I have been love Siete chips so these have been a go to for us with this dip
Scoops Tortilla chips- scoops are the best to serve with a layered chip dip because they literally do just that…. scoop up the DIP
Pita chips
Crackers
Fresh veggies
